I safely reached the US of A on the 21st July 8 30 PM EST !

It was a very long and tiring journey, but very entertaining and filled with fun throughout !

Now let me go through the journey briefly !

I reached the CSIA at about 10 15 for the 2:10 am flight.

Theres some construction goin on there so theres a lot of rush as all vehicles are routed to the same terminal.

No relatives are allowed to enter the airport. And that sucks !

So after bidding my goodbyes, i entered the airport at 11 15.

I had taken my cell phone ( 3315 !! :P ), whose battery immediately died after i checked in !

We students were taken thru the Primeiere check in line, so none of our luggages were checked on the Xray m/c !

Thanks to Jet Air !! :) I had taken 3 + 1 luggage, but did not need to pay a penny extra !

After that, i proceeded to immigration after calling home. Could not call mom/dad/radhika thanks to the wonderful coverage of Airtel !

But somehow, jiji was able to communicate, so that cooled me down a bit !! :)

After immigration, we had about 2 and half hrs to kill b4 boarding !

And we 3 had absolutely nothin to do with no cellphone  !! :)

There was mayank, who had a new cell, but no charge and no SIM.

So i had an ingenious idea ! I put my SIM and charged his cell. No this was the tricky part ! There was only one charging point visible, near the dustbin ! But as we all know, who cares !! I sat near the dustbin, charging the cell and trying hard to connect !!

But alas, no luck !

But we were able to connect to his bro, who in turn connected a conf call to my mom !! :)

So after all the mess, i could talk to them !!! Thanks, God ! :)

That was like heaven ! And I feel like thanking all the electrical and entc engineers for the cellphone and the charger !! :)

After we boarded the Mum- Brussels flight, we could see that we were about 200 odd people in the 315 capacity Boeing 777-300.

That left us all ample space to relax. So we all dispersed and found a nice place to sleep !! :)

The flight was extremely good and relaxing !! i was the only one sitting on the 3 chairs ! So i slept with my legs up and 2 blankets and 3 pillows to make me feel i was traveling business class !! :)

After about 5 hrs of flight, i was hungry ! and asked them to get me some food.

I had a spanish omlette, which, to say the least tasted delicious !!!!

We reached brussles , at about 10 30 am IST, a full 45 mins before schedule !! I dont know how the pilot managed to be so quick !! :)

Nothing to do and so much time at Brussels !!

I had taken a Rel calling card, but it does not work there. So i had to eithr use my CC or change coins to call home !

I had about 160 Euros, some of them in 5 E notes.

So the only thing i could do was ask firangs for change !

And the funnniest part is i could do that !!! :)

I could change 10 Euros for 9. I know i lost a Euro, but what the heck, i needed to call home ! :)

And then, i again lost 4 In the coin box !! I was cursing the box like anything, but then it connected !!

Chalta hai !! 5 Euros daan/charity to Belgium guys !! :)

After 2 and half hrs, we boarded the Boeing 777-200ER flight to JFK. and it was jam packed to capacity !!

No comfy sleep ! :( But i had a PhD student sitting beside me, so it was a nice chat thruout the flight !

I watched everything from Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai to Young Turks to Dhol !! :) So nice flight !! :)

We reached the JFK airport half an hr late. So that compensated the earlier delay ! :P

Welcome to America, said I. Patted my back; mixed feelings !

Proceeded to immigration, which was fast and smooth.

Luckily, all my bags had arrived and intact !!

I proceeded to the customs, and NO bag checking !!!

We all thought that it would be later. Nothing !!!!

We deposited our bags with AA as it was our connecting flight !

WOW ! That was so quick !!

Called up mom/dad and felt good !

Now we had about 5 hrs to kill, which eventually turned to 7 bcoz of a 2 hr delay due to air traffic at JKF !! :)

JFK is a monster size airport with 9 terminals (runways) and 47 gates !! :)

Mumbai has 18 gates and 2 terminals, just to make a comparison !!!

So we had a huge airport, waiting to be explored ! And did we explore !!

Went in all the duty free shops and did not buy a thing !! :P

In the end, we bought a Made in Nepal Coke for 2.16 $$. That was so frustrating !! :)

1st Dollar spent !!

I met a local Clevelander on the way to Cleveland, who says theres a joke abt Cleveland weather !

"If you dont like the weather, wait for 5 mins !!"

Will write more about my experiences in this new land !

Missing u all !

This was my first email to all my friends and family when I landed in the States. If you noticed, all sentences end with an Exclamation ! Once again, I repeat, everything ends with an exclamation !  

Unlike Twitter, FB and, the latest Buzz in town, this is difficult ! 140 characters suit me well ! However, I need to, more so want to keep a web-log - for GenY, or blog for the GenX ! I hope to keep updating this with my latest photos (I hope to buy a DSLR soon, so keep watching this space!), some important aspects of business education I am currently learning, and some random musings for the creatively bent ! 

This blog would be more of a reflection of the person Nikhil Savadi is, than anyone else.
